Those appointed over me at 1976 Union Carbide in Indianapolis at 5700 W. Raymond did not like it when our plant manager was my boss's boss. The Chief Electrical Engineer gave no orders to me.
I worked for the plant manager. Before the plant manager left for Terrytown, NY, HQ (a HUGE PROMOTION), my department was absorbed into the Chief Electrical Engineer's turf. I was told that the honcho engineer was a Navy Veteran by the honcho engineer in his office - hatchet burying attempt.
The Plant Manager was sitting beside me across the room from every engineer at the meet and greet at the Airport Hilton when he told me, "Bob, I flew off carriers in World War 2." My boss and his boss both knew I was one of the best Navy Warbird Aviation Electronics Technicians.
The chief electrical engineer and his junior engineers saw the plant manager have a "ONE ON ONE" with me before he got to UCC CORPORATION's HEADQUARTERS!!!
